2 UN WORLD FOOD PROGRAMME The World Food Programme (WFP) is the largest humanitarian organization of the United Nations system. WFP provides food aid in emergencies (Conflicts & natural disasters) WFP also provides food aid for development (e.g.. Food for Education) In 2007, WFP delivered 3.3 million metric tons of food to 86 million people in 80 countries. Funding is obtained through voluntary contributions from Governments and other donors

6 UNITED NATIONS HUMANITARIAN AIR SERVICES UNHAS or WFP-HAS is a common service provided by WFP to serve and provide the Humanitarian Community with efficient, safe and reliable air transport assets during humanitarian emergencies. WFP-Aviation also provides direct air support to WFP Logistics, providing aircraft for food distribution where there is no other option available to get the food out to the beneficiaries. UNHAS prides itself in its rapid response to emergencies

8 UNHAS SUDAN OPERATION Sudan is WFP Aviation’s largest air operation UNHAS Sudan has 24 aircraft –8 C-208 –5 DHC-8, –2 DHC-6 –1 B-1900 –6 Mi-8, –1 PAC 750 XL –1 Dornier J-328 In February, the fleet flew 1,910 hours carrying 16,255 passengers and over 140 metric tones of cargo. UNHAS has ongoing operations in 14 other countries around the world.
