8 th Grade Science Safety Scenarios 1)Send one student from your table to pick up a safety scenario envelope. 2)As a table, decide what should happen and then write, in complete sentences, your answer on a sheet of paper. (Do not write on the safety scenario.) 3)Send a student to trade for the next safety scenario. First group to complete all scenarios WITH the correct answers will receive a prize. Tuesday, April 23, 2013

8 th Grade Science Safety Scenarios Scenario 1 Morgan and Meghan are working with beakers and test tubes. When moving the test tube into the beaker with tongs, the test tube shatters on the floor. What should they do? Tuesday, April 23, 2013

8 th Grade Science Do Now Name 3 uses of slime. Friday, April 26, 2013

8 th Grade Science Today’s Schedule 1. Do Now 2. Slime Time 3. Scientific Method Intro Essential Question Vocabulary Pre-AP Have a great weekend!!! Grade-Level Have a great weekend!!! Friday, April 26, 2013

8 th Grade Science Slime Time Using borax and glue, we are going to make slime! Friday, April 26, 2013

8 th Grade Science Slime Time 1.Empty half (2 oz.) of the bottle of glue into a pie pan or mixing bowl. 2.Using the funnel, fill half of the empty bottle with warm water and shake. (Put the lid on first!) 3.Pour the glue-water mixture into the pie pan or mixing bowl and use a spoon to mix well. 4.Add food coloring (5-10 drops TOTAL). Friday, April 26, 2013

8 th Grade Science Slime Time 5. Measure 50 mL of warm water into the beaker and add HALF a spoonful of Borax powder to the water. 6. Stir the solution – don’t worry if all of the powder dissolves. This Borax solution is the secret linking agent that causes the Elmer’s Glue molecules to turn into slime. 7. While stirring the glue in the pie pan, slowly add the Borax solution. -You may need to abandon the spoon and use your hands to do the serious mixing. - Keep adding the Borax solution to the glue mixture (don’t stop mixing) until you get a perfect batch of Elmer’s slime. Friday, April 26, 2013

8 th Grade Science When you are finished… 8. Seal up slime in a zipper-lock bag for safe keeping. Once everyone has their slime in a bag… Individually write 10 questions you have about ANYTHING!!! Friday, April 26, 2013

8 th Grade Science Coming up with a question Friday, April 26, 2013 Scientific Method 1.Choose your top 3 questions you think you could answer using the Scientific Method. 2.Share your questions with your group. 3.Make a list of 3-5 questions that you all would like to do an experiment on.
