World Class Standards SG D-COD080707 2 What brought us here today (1) An observation- Digital content distribution in a converged landscape: Forecasts not met Internet and IP creates major disruption (access, delivery, users expectations and behaviours) End users wants to chose what to see and when Many companies expects end of broadcasting as we know it Standardization landscape highly fragmented; fragmentation hinders economic viability of the ecosystems Technical barriers remain Interoperability/compatibility should be the objective
3
World Class Standards SG D-COD080707 3 What brought us here today (2) A consultation with Industry One to one and two informal meetings (March and June) Topics and the need to coordinate seems now very timely Convergence different dynamics to be taken into account Technically: do not re-invent the wheel ETSI has the right cards in hands to help out Support from/consult with Industry and Content Producers all along Technical work and coordination Starter Group
4
World Class Standards SG D-COD080707 4 Focus on some technical parameters Network/bearer agnostic Modular/scalable architectures and standardized interfaces Importance of legacy systems Objective: enable separation of content production from distribution (networks) and delivery (platforms) Ensure that the end users have easy access to the content and the applications they want. It is also important that they have the possibility to use it where and when they want Standards should not pre-empt commercial negotiations and control issues

World Class Standards SG D-COD080707 12 « Au commencement est le verbe » D-COD is not a good name choice... "COD" means "Content on Demand" in the IPTV & media business DCD sounds lousy in French How about DMCD... Digital Media Content Distribution? Other suggestions?
