3  The war in Afghanistan came to a close on Dec 31, 2014  The US and its allies turned over combat operations to the Afghan army.  This was the longest war in US History (13 years)

4  The end of the war begins a new struggle for many families to get the recognition they deserve  Many veterans are still fighting physical wounds as well as mental trauma

5  Approximately 12,000 troops will stay behind to help train Afghan troops.  Operation Enduring Freedom changed to Operation Resolute Support  The troops staying say not much has changed

6  Cost of War  $1 trillion  2,242 US Casualties  Nearly 20,000 wounded  Troops are, in general, less proud to serve

7  Many US citizens are unaware we still have troops in Afghanistan  The mood in military towns has changed since the beginning of the war

8  This article informs Americans of the cost of war and the fact that even though we may hear that the war is over, it’s not.
