MISSING QUIZZES If you are missing Quiz 5 or Quiz 6. You MUST take your quiz before Xmas break. Failure to take your quiz before Wednesday, DECEMBER 15 will result in ZERO. This is an in-class assignment for your binder. Label it QUIZ 6 Discussion 12/7 and place in class work section.

PUT IN BINDER!!!! 1.The temperature in Chicago was -5 below at 6am. Five hours later, the temperature dropped an additional 15 degrees. What is the new temperature? -5 + (-15) = -20 degrees
5
IN-CLASS WORK 2. Draw a horizontal number line on your paper with zero in the middle. Label dot on -2 and dot on 6. Label dot on -2 point A and dot on 6 point B. What is the midpoint of segment AB?
6
A B Midpoint = pt.1 + pt.2 2 = -2 + 6 2 = 4 = 2 2

3. What is the value of the expression -2x ⁵, when x = -3? -2 (-3) ⁵ = Remember order of operations Should you multiply -2 * -3 then raise to 5 th power? So 6⁵ = 7776 Should you do -3⁵ then multiply by -2? (-3) x (-3) x (-3) x (-3) x (-3) = (-243) (-2)(-243) = 486
8
2(x-3) = 4x +10 Operation distribution 2*x + 2(-3) = 4x + 10 2x – 6 = 4x +10Combine like terms -2x = -2x -6 = 2x + 10Combine numbers -10 = -10 -16 = 2x Solve for x 2 2 ⇛ -8 = x 4. What value of x satisfies the equation 2(x-3) = 4x + 10?
9
5. Kerry scores 15 points in the first game, 22 in the second game, 8 in the third, and 17 in the fourth game. In the 5 th game, he was shut down for 0. What is his scoring average after 5 games? Find average by adding numbers then dividing by the amount of numbers. 15 + 22 + 8 + 17 + 0 = 62 = 12.4 pts/game 5
10
A B 6. A (-2, -8) 7. B (5,-2) -2-2 -8 -2 5
11
Find midpoint of AB Midpoint formula= (x ₁ + x₂), (y ₁ + y₂) = (x, y) 2 2 1.Locate points 2.Assign points as pt1 and pt2 3.Label point1 as ( x ₁, y ₁) and point2 as (x₂,y₂) 4.Insert into formula
12
Find midpoint of AB A (-2, -8)B ( 5, -2) pt.1 ⇛ (x ₁, y ₁) pt.2 ⇛ (x₂, y₂) Midpoint = (x ₁ + x₂), (y ₁ + y₂) = (x, y) 2 2 =(-2 + 5 ), (-8 + -2) 2 2 =(3/2, -10/2) = (3/2, -5) or (1.5,-5)
13
Find the Distance of AB Distance formula = √ [( x₂ - x ₁) ² + ( y₂ - y ₁) ²] 1.Locate points 2.Assign points as pt1 and pt2 3.Label point1 as ( x ₁, y ₁) and point2 as (x₂,y₂) 4.Insert into formula
14
Find the Distance of AB A (-2, -8) B ( 5, -2) (x ₁, y ₁) (x₂, y₂) Distance = √ [( x₂ - x ₁) ² + ( y₂ - y ₁) ²] = √ (5 – (-2)) ² + ( -2 – (-8)) ² = √ (7) ² + (6) ² = √ 49 + 39 = √ 85
15
10. What is difference between midpoint and distance of a line? Midpoint is the middle point of a line and the distance of a line is the length from one point to another on the line.
16
Cooperative notes Students will work in pairs to complete graphic organizer/notes on angle relationships. (30 minutes).

Lesson 1-4 Use the map of a high school shown. a.Name all angles that have K as a vertex. 8, 6, HKJ, and JKC b.Name the sides of 6. KJ and KC or KJ and KG c.What is another name for AJK? 9, J, and KJA d.Name a point in the interior of ECG. Point F. Example 3 Measure and Classify Angles In the figure, ABD FHG. If m ABD = 3x + 6 and m FHG = x + 26, find the measures of ABD and FHG. Given Definition of congruent angles 3x + 6 = x + 26Substitution 3x = x + 20Subtract 6 from each side. 2x = 20Subtract x from each side. x = 10Divide each side by 2. Use the value of x to find the measure of one angle. = 3x + 6Given = 3(10) + 6x = 10 = 30 + 6 or 36Simplify. The measures of ABD and FHG are 36. You can check you solution by substituting 10 for x in the expression for FHG. J B M A D F H G
