Independent Living means that we demand the same choices and control in our every-day lives that our non-disabled brothers and sisters, neighbors and friends take for granted. We want to grow up in our families, go to the neighborhood school, use the same bus as our neighbors, work in jobs that are in line with our education and interests, and start families of our own Adolf Ratzka, 1992. Nothing about us without us, David Werner, 1998 [Independent Living] Independent Living

Raising dependency Where do elderly people want to live? At home (78,8%) With relatives (14%) In an institution (2,5%) [SESPAS, 2004] What is the most beneficial situation? Institution residents have many much more serious health problems than elderly people who live independently, and they have much less access to the resources that would allow them to continue living independently with such health problems. [SCPON, 1994]
