1 Status Brussels GANTRY Ê Assembly of R3 modules (36 modules) 4 precision of the modules 4 problems with DataBase (not adapted for single sensor modules) Ë Towards R5 module assembly 4 still 3 R5N and 3 R5S modules are needed for the TEC Test Beam 4 mask of the sensors is not correct… (update website) Ì Plans for the near future Í Outlook O.Bouhali, J.D’Hondt, C.Vander Velde, L.Van Lancker, J.Wickens TEC meeting CMS – April 2004

2 Assembly of R3 modules Ê We received about 38 hybrids in total ( + 36 more end of last week) ï only 2 of them failed the electronic ARC tests (58 tested yet) Ë In total 36 R3 modules were assembled ï with 2 persons working in parallel this job can be done in about 2 hours ï including after curing, virtual assembly, mounting on transportation frames, assembly, …(everything) Ì Via dry assemblies, corrections were estimated (shifts and rotations) ï (slightly) different for all plate positions ï this incorporates precision problems with the sensor pick-up tool ï now we have 1 pick-up tool for all sensor types (R3, R5, R6) !! DataBase problem for single sensor modules !! Ê DataBase and Gantry software always expect 2 sensors ï hence the assembled modules are always ‘NOT VALID’ ï we correct the DB flags by hand before introducing them ï … people are working on it

6 Ê The specifications on the angle of the sensor on the frame are very severe (10mdeg) Ë The angle between the hybrid and the sensor is important for the bounding, hence it could be that modules outside the limits could be bounded and are therefore valid Those from the beginning of the production period, residuals much better now

7 Transport of R3 modules Ê The first 8 modules are already shipped to Karlsruhe and Hamburg (DHL) ï 2D bar code labels were not glued on these frames (I have some with me) ï transportation did arrive in good shape (no damage) ï Hamburg claimed some damage yesterday on the back of the sensors (to be checked) Ë The remaining 28 modules will be shipped now ï 50% to Hamburg ï 50% to Karlsruhe (we will wait a bit until we have the R5 modules)

8 Towards R5 module assembly Ê For the TEC Test Beam we need 3 R5N and 3 R5S modules ï we will assemble them this week 4 For R5N the software is about to be ready and modules will be glued tomorrow. We have seen that the mask of the sensors is not matching with the reality… This will be checked and updated very soon (in communication with Aachen). 4 For R5S the software is in development and modules will be glued this week to be able to ship them in time on probably monday Ë A good precision of these modules cannot be guaranteed, but this is not very important for the TEC Test Beam… corrections to be applied in the future to minimize the residuals (via dry assemblies a la R3) Ì Some problems with the pin holes for the R5 plates, the pins do not enter the holes completely (Aachen is investigating their plates … Oliver Pooth). DB was down today : hence no modules produced today !!! …also some residual problem appeared…

12 Conclusion and outlook for the future Ê Precision of R3 modules is good Ë In total 36 modules are assembled (+ 2 bad hybrids) Ì Production is continuing (another 36 hybrids did arrived) assembled already 4 yesterday Í Some problems with DataBase to be solved… Ê R5N : 3 modules will be glued tomorrow (‘old’ hybrids) Ë R5S : in development (to be finalized and glued this week) Ì … no guarantee for precision but enough for the TEC Test Beam

13 Outlook Ê R3 (1 plate of 4 modules) : 20 modules/week (~700 total) Ë R5N (1 plate of 3 modules) : 15 modules/week (~800 total) Ì R5S (1 plate of 3 modules) : 15 modules/week (~800 total) Í R6 (1 plate of 3 modules) : 15 modules/week (~1100 total) Plan was to produce 4 plates per day (for R5N, R5S, R6 one reserve plate, hence we can alternate ring types during production) For R5 and R6 we have to wait for sensors (ST?) and hybrids. R3 production is continuing (700 modules or 35 working weeks) main concern for R3 is the delivery of the hybrids (end of next week we are out of hyrbids)
