10 What is Cyber-bullying? b Someone says something that makes you upset or teases you in a hurtful way on the Internet b One child or a group of children talk about something that someone said on a computer about you and it makes you feel bad. b Someone uses a computer to say something that scares you like: –They are going to try to find where you live or go to school –They are going to hurt you, your family or friends –They will take something that belongs to you or damage your property b Someone from school is using the Internet to get other people to tease you or to not be your friend. b Someone takes a picture or movie of you with their phone without your permission.

11 Why is cyber-bullying bad? b When you say mean things about people, in-person or on the computer, it hurts. b You are being used by someone else if you join in cyber-bullying. b Cyber-bullies and their friends often end up being bullied themselves. 17 What to do if you are bullied b Tell the bully how they are making you feel. b Look right at the bully and tell them that they are bullying you. 18 OK, SO HOW CAN I HELP SOMEONE ELSE? b BULLYING STARTS AND STOPS WITH YOU!! b If you see another student being hurt by a bully or bullies, tell someone. 19 Tattling versus Telling b It is important to know the difference between telling and tattling. Students do not want to be known as “tattle-tales,” but if what someone is doing hurts, scares, or puts another person in danger, an adult must be told right away. 22 TRUE OR FALSE? A kid who gets teased and bullied knows we’re just kidding around. Even if it does hurt his feelings right now, he’ll get over it. FALSE. Bullying is kind of like pounding a nail into a board. You can take the nail out, but the hole is still there. You can even use some kind of putty to fill the hole up. The bottom line is that piece of wood will never be quite the same again. People who have been bullied carry those scars, big or small, forever.
