Attention Grabber #1 Tell a story: Describe yourself as a child. What did you look like? Act like? Like to do? Want to be when you grew up? Now, describe yourself today. What do you look like? Act like? Like to do? Why did you choose this career to research. Use specific details. Imagine you are describing a picture of yourself. You want the reader to “see” this picture through your words.

Attention Grabber #2 Imagine you are working the job you are researching. Describe a typical day in your life : What day is it? What time do you get up? What is the routine? How do you get to work? What are you physically doing during the day? What do you like about it? What are the downsides? Describe getting off work. Are you relieved? Tired? Inspired? Happy? When do you go to bed? Write it as a first person narrative. Use “I”.
