2 Theodor Seuss Geisel (March 2, 1904 – September 24, 1991) was an American writer, poet, and cartoonist most widely known for his children's books written under the pen name Dr. Seuss Known for his catchy rhymes and twisting of the English language

3 Becoming Dr. Seuss Theodore went to college at Darthmouth in 1921 and joined the school humor magazine Dartmouth Jack-o-Lantern. Later he was caught drinking gin with nine friends in his dorm room. The dean punished him but forcing him to resign from all extracurricular activities. To fool the dean and continue publishing his work, he used his middle name Seuss. After graduating he began using the pen name Dr. Seuss.

12 What is a WHO? And Why Whoville? There are plenty of UVA myths floating around. One is that Dr. Seuss used to live in this great big house up on the hill, looking down towards Newcomb Hall.

13 Apparently, after being rejected from UVA, he wrote a little book called How the Grinch Stole Christmas. In this book, he depicted himself as the grouchy, resentful old Grinch staring down at all the “Whos in Whoville.”
