2 Physical Education in Glasgow Standard Grade Presentations Types of Activity No activity is the same as another. They vary in many different ways. Activities can be classified as: Individual or Team based Individual or Team based Directly competitive, indirectly competitive Directly competitive, indirectly competitive or non-competitive. or non-competitive. A team activity involves you performing with other people. 4 Physical Education in Glasgow Standard Grade Presentations Directly, indirectly and non competitive activities A directly competitive activity is one where you will have a direct influence on your oppositions performance. E.g. When you tackle a player in football. In an indirectly competitive activity. In an indirectly competitive activity you do not have any direct contact with the opposition. However you are trying to out perform them.. E.g.. E.g. 100m sprint – you look to defeat the opposition by running faster than them.. A A non competitive activity is something your participate in for your own pleasure rather than against other people. E.g.. E.g. Hill walking or rock climbing.

5 Physical Education in Glasgow Standard Grade Presentations Scoring Systems Activities have different scoring systems These can be split into: Objective scoring - This occurs when the score is based on facts or results. This is usually when a result is counted, timed or measured. For example: The number of goals scored in hockey The time swam in a 50m sprint swim The distance jumped by a high jump competitor Subjective scoring - This occurs is based on other peoples opinions. Judges will grade the performance out of a possible maximum mark. 6 Physical Education in Glasgow Standard Grade Presentations Indoor and Outdoor Activities take place both indoors and outdoors, possibly both. Indoor activities are usually performed individually or in small teams e.g. 5 vs 5 Examples of Indoor activities are Netball Basketball Badminton Gymnastics Outdoor activities are performed individually or in larger teams e.g. 11 vs 11 Examples of outdoor activities are Football Cricket Lawn Bowls Athletics Examples of activities that take place both indoors and outdoors are: Football (5-a-side vs 11-a-side) Volleyball (indoor and beach) Bowls (lawn and indoor) Athletics (100m vs 60m )
