3. Why did we choose SPARK? Previous VFHY grant experiences –Variety of settings & staff –Inclusion Comprehensive program Partnership building Evidence-based Practical and accessible

4. How did we implement SPARK? Staff training in August 2012 –Two-day trainings –Program introduction –Activity demonstrations –Manual distribution –FUN!

5. Where and with whom did we initially implement? YMCA (4) Boys & Girls Club (4) Smart Beginnings VA Cooperative Extension MHC After 3, Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math & Science (4) Clearview Early Learning Center Piedmont Community Services Total of 17 organizations/sites serving youth between the ages of 3-18 years ~ 1,000 youth served

6. What are the benefits of SPARK PE?

7. “It is very helpful to the staff in planning daily lessons because they pick a game or two for each day and everything is laid out for them.” - YMCA Staff

8. “The children love the activities and we have purchased a parachute and the kids love it!” - Staff “ The games we play are a lot of fun. It’s fun when we use the parachute.” - Nakiyah, 5 th Grade

9. “We have enjoyed the SPARK program, the children like being able to learn new or different games. I like that music is incorporated into the program.” – YMCA Staff “I don’t have a favorite, I like all of the activities. It’s so much fun!” – Leighton 4 th Grade
