6 TUTORING SESSION REPORT Fill out for all students you work with Put in period file when complete Encourage students in a study plan Encourage the students you work with to come back to see you again (Im here 2 nd on T & W) Tell or show the student what you are filling out

7 TUTORS ROLE Be punctual Arrive on scheduled day Be approachable Build relationships Confidentiality Set an example Dont use computers on duty Ask for help

8 TUTOR AS HELPER Help students to learn for themselves Dont just give them answers Suggest or help develop a course of action Guide the sessions to keep them on track Be ready to help, but let the students do the work!

9 TUTOR AS TEACHER Explain ideas or information Teach concepts and ideas Refer to the textbook Draw diagrams Review formulas Go over their notes Give students tips and examples Encourage the student

10 TUTOR AS PEER LEARNER You are not experts Be honest if you cant remember or dont know Utilize text books, dictionaries and teachers to find answers Model this behavior Teach them how to look for help

11 TUTORING TIDBITS Sit in an uncluttered area Read papers out-loud Helps the student catch their mistakes Produces CONFIDENCE Dont criticize teachers or assignments Let the student do the writing They have pen/pencil

12 ENGLISH PEER TUTOR Slay the biggest dragons firstisolate one or two writing issues and focus on those (i.e. mechanics) Find something to praise in the students work (great intro) Avoid writing the students paper Reinforce the idea of multiple drafts

13 EXTRA STUFF Resources in the room Follow schedule Borrow calculator Computer policy Hours of Operation Periods 1 st – 8 th Afterschool Tuesday - Thursday
