Year Two Parents’ Information Meeting AGENDA General Information Curriculum Summary Guidelines For Parents

School Times School Times : Class starts promptly at 8:50am Break Time : Fresh fruit / Vegetable Water / Milk Dinner Time :Dinner tickets are £2.50 per day.£12.50 per week. (Please pay for dinners on a Monday Morning in a separate envelope from other payments) Home Time:2:00pm everyday

School Uniform Full school uniform is required everyday Non-marking traditional black shoes only PE days (Thursday & Friday) - children wear PE uniform with their trainers all day All parts of uniform should be clearly labelled with child’s name and class (including tie)

Absences & Appointments Please try to keep appointments outside teaching hours, where possible Sign out children at the office Any absences require a written note or verbal explanation from parent

HomeworkHomework Homework folders are given out on Monday and returned on Friday morning Reading EVERY night Three pieces of written homework per week- 1 literacy, 1 numeracy, 1 other (WAU/RE/PDMU) Any Religion homework (requires discussion time with your child) Reading records and written homework must be signed every night.

Communication- Language & Literacy Reading Reading should be an enjoyable experience. Pupils will be offered the opportunity to read, understand and engage with a variety of texts for their enjoyment and learning. This will be achieved through Shared Reading Guided Reading Individual Reading

Language and Literacy Writing Shared Writing Guided Writing Independent Writing A strong emphasis is placed on Correct pencil grip Letter formation & letter size Full Stops, Capital Letters & spaces Linguistic Phonics Follow on from foundations in Year 1 - 15 minute daily lesson Talking & Listening Class Discussions Questions & Answers Focus is on: Pupils own experiences ~speaking in full sentences Topic Work ~speaking out clearly Show and Tell Hot Seating

Using Mathematics The following areas will be explored Number Addition to 20, Subtraction to 20, missing numbers on a number line 1-20, Recognition to 100, horizontal & vertical addition, Recognition of coins and give change within 10p, Counting in 2s, 5s 10s. Shape & Space Names & properties of basic 2D & 3D shapes and recognition of these shapes in their environment. Handling Data Sorting everyday objects, Venn &Carroll diagrams, Recording data- tally charts, pictographs & block graphs. Measures Time, length, weight, capacity ; non-standard measures

The World Around Us Skills Children will have experience of: Managing Information Thinking, Problem solving, Decision Making Being Creative Self Management Working with Others Knowledge & Understanding Topics covered this year are Once Upon a time! Seasons All Around Home Sweet Home It’s a Wonderful Life Splish Splash! (each half term)

Religious Education Children follow the Alive-O Programme. They will have opportunities to develop their faith through Stories Prayers Drama Art Poetry Music The contribution of parents is crucial in helping the children recognise the love of God in everyday things.

Parent Guidelines Spend 10-15 minutes quality time discussing work – don’t expect children to do the work totally on their own – we don’t ! Homework should be completed in a distraction free zone Encourage co-ordination skills on an on-going basis: colouring in, cutting out, sticking, model making, correct pencil grip Encourage correct formation when writing letters & numbers Encourage respect for books and presentation of work – remember the finishing touches such as colouring pictures Encourage enthusiasm by bringing in items relating to topic work eg photographs
