Course Goals What can PEMS do on my Blackberry? –basic functionality overview –planning information –reporting emergencies –alerting and notifications –why isn’t PEMS on my Blackberry? Help me!

Basic Functionality Overview Planning information – Web and locally stored via Icon –Navigate to all subordinate locations –View EMT rosters –View checklists –View documents Alerting and notifications – Activate (Report) an emergency from Blackberry icon – Receive basic alert information in email text ** – Check-in from email and interact with Live Information ** ** No PEMS icon necessary **

What Does It Look Like? The ICON If you don’t have it, go to the back of this training or see online troubleshooting guide Last updated?: –Information is pushed to your device weekly –To get a fresh data load: click Update Channel on Blackberry icon click link in PEMS Channel Update Email from Blackberry

Subordinate Locations Available to Area or District resources Click on Parent Location to “Go Back”

View EMT Rosters Displays all people with EMT role at the currently viewed location Click on name for detailed information Click email or phone number to contact Cannot click PIN – must copy and paste

View Checklists Select Threat Type Select Role Select Stage View Actions

View Documents Select document PEMS will email latest version to you View with Blackberry or MetaMessage Help

Activate Emergency Select Threat Type Fill in basic information Click “Submit”

PEMS Alert Information Alerts are sent as high priority email System sends 3 alerts with these subjects: –[PEMS] Emergency Reported –[PEMS] Emergency Comment Update –[PEMS] Emergency Stage Changed See FAQ #27 to make Blackberry ring for these messages Telephone alerting to be released in 4 – 6 weeks

View Emergency Detail Alert detail displays Threat Type, Date / Time Reported, and current stage Most recent comment on main emergency detail display All comments are accessible Users can post new comments to team Role and threat-specific checklists Roster statistics are real time

Comments All comments are visible in reverse chronological order Includes date, time, and resource All EMT Members can post new comments Comments sent immediately to entire EMT

Checklists Checklists for all 26 annexes loaded Role-specific for user viewing Blackberry Checklists are not ordered based on any real-world priority Checklists are a reminder of tasks to be completed, not a step-by- step recipe Checklists are not “checked off” in the system

Rosters Information about entire responding EMT for incident –Click name to send email –Click phone number to call –Real time displays of: EMT Role Status (Primary / Alternate) Location (HQ / Area / District / Installation) Checked In (Yes / No)

Why isn’t PEMS on my Blackberry? Having a PEMS program-funded Blackberry does NOT grant access to PEMS application—MUST use eAccess to request PEMS login PEMS pushes Blackberry icons to all registered users once a week— improvements are in process that will allow users to push icon using the PEMS Web site For issues with your Blackberry related to PEMS please use PEMS Web online troubleshooting guide to resolve http://blue/emergencypreparedness/ep_PEM S.htm
