Go Global 1997: Dr. Teixeira, Dr. Berguer, Dr. Earle, Dr. Pleatman, and Dr. Asbun were individually travelling to Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, and Argentina to teach laparoscopic cholecystectomy SAGES adopted their program, now SAGES Go Global

Go Global The goal: teach local surgeons basic laparoscopy with laparoscopic cholecystectomy as the model Two surgeons undergo weeklong didactic and clinical training in laparoscopy including an introduction to FLS. Equipment was generously donated by industry including: Karl Storz Endoscopy and Ethicon endosurgery

Go Global Dr. Victor Manuel Mureira de Costa – born and raised in Cape Verde, trained in Cuba and the current Chief of Surgery at Agostinho Neto Hospital Dr. Jose Fragosso from Portugal who also trained in Cuba and currently works in Cape Verde Staff also receive training to support ongoing laparoscopy

Go Global Identified a high rate of gastric cancer in cape verde For this reason, we reviewed the hospital’s endoscopic capabilities. Dr. Teixeira is returning in the future for endoscopy training.
