Welcome to Bacon’s College
2
Attendance If your child is in school they will be learning, so it is important to keep absent days to a minimum. If your child is ill you must call Carol in the KS3 office, otherwise it is considered an authorised absence. On or Above 96% attendance = You miss less than 2 weeks of learning every year. EVERY DAY COUNTS!
3
Punctuality Please get your child an alarm clock and ensure they leave home in plenty of time so they can arrive to College without rushing. They should arrive by 8.30am with registration at 8.40 am. When assemblies take place students need to be lined up in the designated area for 8.30 am. If a student is late to College they will receive a 15 minute detention with their tutor on the day. If they are late twice or more in a week they well get a 1 hour Head of Year detention at the end of the week. 0 lates = You are in school on time and making the most of your learning EVERY MINUTE COUNTS
4
Morning Registration Each morning your child will need to arrive to registration on time. They must be sat in their tutor room so their tutor can take the register at 8.40 am. They will also need to have a reading book for each morning and ensure they have their planners and equipment with them for each lesson. Please encourage your son/daughter to read at home and always have a reading book with them at school.
5
Afternoon Activities Each afternoon your child will need to arrive to registration on time. They must be sat in their tutor room so their tutor can take the register shortly after 3.20pm. Tutors will need to checks for emails and e-portals to follow up with tutees. If students have detentions they need to go to these before clubs, matches and other activities.
7
KS3 Groupings When you child arrives at Bacon’s College they are placed into mixed ability groups or in sets depending on a particular subject. After the January exams students will then be moved into set groups based on these results. The sets are reviewed at the end of the year after their summer exams are undertaken and students are moved as appropriate.
8
Report runs and concerns letters At the beginning of each half term reports are issued to students in order to take home. This will now include the new Bacons levels (1 to 9). Please ask to see them otherwise they will get left at the bottom of a school bag!!! There is also an acknowledgement slip to return to the tutor. This is so they know you have seen it and are kept up to date with your son/daughters progress at school.
9
Data from the report will be used to generate two lists. Commendation list This allows us to highlight exemplary performance in attendance, punctuality, effort, conduct or deadlines e.g. homework completed on time. Concerns list This will be generated if attendance, punctuality, effort, conduct or deadlines e.g. homework) are below expectations. At this point we will often advise of the concern in writing, e-mail or a phone call. If necessary we may request a meeting with you.
10
Detentions If a student obtains a detention with a teacher or tutor they will often have to do it on the same day they receive it. (A note is placed in a student’s planner). If they do not attend this or the sanction is more severe they will receive a 1 hour detention on a separate day. (Phone calls or letters home take place to inform the parent/guardian). If they fail to attend this, they will be placed into a Senior Leadership Team (SLT) 2 hour detention on the Friday. (Phone calls or letters home take place to inform the parent/guardian). If your child is in detention they are expected to attend. If a student consistently misses SLT detentions they will be placed into a 3 hour Saturday detention.
11
See it Hear it Lose it If a phone, ear phones or incorrect uniform is seen or heard (in the case of phones) they will be confiscated and not returned until Friday of that week at 4.30pm. If this happens twice during the year, the item will not be returned until the last Friday of that term. If this happens three times during the year, the item will be returned at the end of the year.
12
We are a team! There are 3 parts to this team: Parents, Staff and Students. It is essential we all work together. Communication is important. We have the phone, email and the planner which can be used to communicate.
