Welcome to Year 6 Mr Wolfson’s Class. Curriculum Coverage Maths, Literacy & Guided Reading are all taught daily. Science, French & PSHE are taught weekly.

1 Welcome to Year 6 Mr Wolfson’s Class

2 Curriculum Coverage Maths, Literacy & Guided Reading are all taught daily. Science, French & PSHE are taught weekly. Other curriculum subjects may be taught on a rotational basis but over the course of the academic year, all objectives will be covered.

3 Target Setting Targets in Mental Maths, Reading and Writing Targets all on one sheet to go home Children will be assessed against these targets in class and in homework Targets reviewed on a regular basis

4 Positive Behaviour Management Same system throughout school from Nursery to Year 6. Traffic light system used. Friday activity House points system. Merit box (please remember that your child may receive this more than once or perhaps not at all).

5 SATs Reading, Writing and Maths will be assessed. Maths – two papers and one mental test Reading – one paper Grammar, spelling and punctuation test.

7 Trips Residential to Kingswood (September) Another trip to be confirmed for 2014 – Thwaite Mills/Eden Camp for WWII theme

8 Leavers’ Book Children usually decide they want a Leavers’ Book as a momento of their years at GPS. Fundraising activities required such as pyjama day.

9 PE Outdoor kit : plain white t-shirt; navy, grey or black plain tracksuit; suitable trainers. Indoor kit : plain white t-shirt; plain, navy, grey or black shorts. Tuesday & Thursday sessions.

10 Uniform White polo t-shirt or shirt, with or without school logo. Black, grey or navy trousers or skirt. No jeans or tracksuit bottoms please. No jewellery (small stud earrings only). No make-up Pumps for indoor use.

11 Expectations of your Child Readiness for High School. Organisation (PE kit, homework diaries, toilet during lesson time). Encouraging independence at school and at home Jobs around school (line & dinner monitors etc).

12 Communication between home and School Homework diary essential link, to be handed in signed, Monday morning. Telephone Before or after school Year 6 blog. Please come to see me, don’t brood over potential issues.

13 House System Year 6 children House and Sports’ captains. Pupils have already held these elections alongside year 5 and have started their duties

14 Homework Set weekly. Maths & Literacy when appropriate (more in run up to SATs). Subscription to Mathletics & Reading Eggspress (internet connection needed) – any issues, alternative arrangements can be made in school. Learning logs with open ended tasks (not always set weekly).

15 Morning Routine Guided reading Set timetable on a two weekly basis Can bring books from home to read for Independent Reading – I will check to make sure they are easy/challenging enough

16 How can I support my child? Clear communication between home & school. Embed times table knowledge. Encourage more responsibility and independence at home.

17 Suggestions Are there things that you would like to happen that do not currently take place? (parental workshops to show Maths strategies perhaps?) Please go away and think about this and let us know. Thank you for your support in our three way partnership.
