2 Context Social - India is a very religious country; the majority of the population follow hinduism. Historical - This historical information is being still learnt today, illustrating the historical significance of Ghandi’s actions. His ability to re-structure the county and shape peoples views.

3 Language Rhetorical Questions- to make people reflect on Ghandi’s past
Short Sentences- to show assurance in the PM’s words List of three’s- to the illustrate the glory of Ghandi, because saying one thing wasnt enough. Repetition- To re-iterate certain points, making the audience continuously consider this. Religious language - Example : “Divine fire” “When this man of God” - to illustrate Ghandi’s personality; humble, proud of God and a religious man. Emotive langauge - shows

5 Intro The text is a Eulogy commemorating the humble life that Mahatma Gandhi lived, honoring him one last time. The eulogy is presented by Jawaharlal Nehru over the radio, a few days after his death emphasizing their close relationship during India’s freedom struggle. The intention of the speaker was reflecting on Gandhi’s life and his great achievements when fighting for India’s independence and consoling listeners and followers of Gandhi that he will “live on forever in our hearts”. The speaker uses various stylistic devices such as metaphors and euphemism to ease the mind of the grieving audience while presenting Gandhi as a character of greatness.

Justification - “Eulogy” - I would define this through summarizing key aspects of the type Thesis statement - That is is an effective speech due to the choice of rhetoric, stylistic features, and structure. Also there is another minor underlying purpose of the text other than to commemorate him.

12 Audience & Purpose Audience:
Eulogies often given at a funeral service or in a home after a wake However since it is for such a great figure and by a Prime Minister, the setting of this speech would be at a place accommodating a vast number of people. In that sense it would be for Indians (Use of elective pronouns and inclusive language - “we”,”us”) Would also be telegraphed and/or recorded for international exposure
