15. Purpose of Illuminations Most people could not read To spread Christianity, the educated would read the stories to the public in town squares and use the illustrations to emphasize the main points.

16. The Colors The colors for illuminations were primarily reds and golds. Purples and blues were very expensive and considered colors of loyalty. As a result, these colors along with greens were minimally used.
