Dasher Director, US-Asia Technology Management Center / Executive Director, Center for Integrated Systems / Consulting Professor, School of Engineering, Stanford University, America Discussion “Will low carbon technologies help to develop the Asia-Pacific region?” Dr. Dasher was the first non-Japanese person ever asked to join the senior governance of a Japanese national university, serving a one-year term on the Board of Directors of Tohoku University from April 2004. He continues to serve on the Management Steering Council of Tohoku University and as Special Advisor to the Tohoku University president. From 2001-2003, he was a member of the International Advisory Committee to the Japanese Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy in regard to the creation of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology. He is regularly called on to consult for local and regional governments in Japan, the U.S. and Asia in regard to innovation-based regional economic development and university-industry relations. He was a executive director of Sharp Co. and had led its solar system division to the world top share for 7 years. Takashi Yanagihara Senior Researcher, Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry / Project Professor, Department of Architecture, School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo Dr. Yanagihara is specialized in heat pumps, thermal storage systems, and various other technologies for energy conservation and operation management. Kazuaki Koizawa Special Advisor on International Affairs, Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Department, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, METI He was a manager of Natural Resources and Energy, Kanto Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry and Executive Director, Energy and Environment Technology Center, NEDO. Tadahiro Ohmi Professor, New Industry Creation Hatchery Center (NICHe) Tohoku University Prof. Ohmi’s research field covers whole Si-based semiconductor, flat panel display and solar cell technologies. He is a recipient of the Medal with Purple Ribbon from Government of Japan and the Best Collaboration Award (the Prime Minister’s Award) in 2003. Hiroshi Kazui Executive Vice President / Director, Office of Corporative Research and Development, Tohoku University He was the Director-General of Tohoku Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Director-General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Agency, METI Katuto Nakatsuka Supervisor to the Director, JST Innovation Plaza Miyagi He was a dean, a vice president and a board of trustee of Tohoku University and put great effort into establishing university-industry relations and promoting industrial applications of academic research results.
