3 3 CQR: Technical Committee on Quality & Reliability Established in 1986 as QAMC (Quality Assurance Management Committee) One of the 23 Technical Committees of IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) Recertified by ComSoc in 2006 (every 3 years)* Holds annual international workshop, except 1996 and 2003 CQR Background and Activities (I) * 18 TCs passed the 2006 recertification; 5 TCs were placed on probation http://www.comsoc.org/socstr/org/operation/techcom/committees.html

4 4 CQR Charter Revised August 2006 Focuses on and advocates worldwide communications and reliability on behalf of, and within, the Communications Society. Serves as the catalyst for global awareness and the exchange of information relative to technical and management-related aspects of communications quality and reliability. This also extends to security of the telecommunications network. CQR technical subject matter includes: I. Service Quality and Reliability II. Network Quality and Reliability III. Product and System Quality and Reliability

17 17 Introduction (1) The IEEE CQR International Workshop is held annually with the purpose of bringing together industry and academic experts to present and discuss communications quality, reliability and security issues as they relate to real world issues. The output from the workshops adds to the community's body of knowledge and serves to inform opinion and to assist the development of best practice and relevant standards.

18 18 Introduction (2) Continuing the tradition of this series of workshops, CQR 2008 will provide an international technical forum for experts from industry and academia to exchange ideas and present results of ongoing research in the areas listed below. This year, special focus will be on the challenging issues related to the requirements, metrics, measurement, management, and dissemination of Communication Quality & Reliability.

19 19 Scope Various aspects of QoS and Reliability for the following networks/services: –Grid and Distributed Computing, Mobile and Ad Hoc Networks –Overlay Networks, Multimedia Networks and VoIP Services –VPN, MPLS and Mullticast Services, Web Services –Broadband Audio Visual Services, Current and Next-generation Internet –Emerging Technologies and Services The detailed technical area includes: –Measurements Techniques, Network Architecture and Design –Network Security, Operations, Administration and Maintenance –QoS Metrics and Measurement, QoS Policy and Assesment –Traffic Control, Traffic Modeling and Characterization

20 20 Submission Paper should describe original work. The cover page should clearly indicate the complete postal and electronic mailing addresses, as well as the phone and fax numbers of the contact author. Paper submissions must be made electronically via e- mail attachment in PDF format. Hardcopy submissions will not be accepted. (We expect 70 or more submissions and 30-40 presentations.)
