Aims of Session: To understand the assessment process for Year 2 pupils To understand what is expected at the end of Year 2 To understand how you can help support your child with their learning at home

What are Year 2 children assessed in? English – Reading, Writing, Spelling and Speaking and Listening Maths Science Phonics (for children who did not meet the required standard at Year One)

How are children assessed? Teacher assessments form the final judgement of what children achieve at the end of Year 2 Teachers will analyse and ‘level’ children’s work that they do as part of their normal lessons, but they will also carry out a more formal assessment as part of this process When do the assessments take place? May – June 2015 – over 2 weeks

How can you help and support your child with their learning? Listen to your child read regularly – preferably every day Ask your child questions about the story and check they understand any new words. Read TO your child so your child develops a real interest and desire to read for themselves Support and encourage your child with their homework Help support your child learn the ‘basics’ of maths – number bonds to 10 then 20, timestables. Mental maths, for example adding 10 and 2 in in their head and 23 add 6. Play games to support your child’s learning – ‘snap’ / BINGO – help develops their sight vocabulary Hangman – supports spelling Timestables games – Woodlands junior website has a great number of timestables games, especially good is ‘Hit the Button’
