History The Great Fire of London The children will learn about the events of the Great Fire of London. There will be opportunities to look at sources of evidence such as Samuel Pepys’ diaries. We will visit the Monument as part of this topic. More details to follow in a separate letter soon. They will describe the importance of eating the right amounts of different types of food. They will also think about why hygiene is important when preparing food, cooking and eating. PE Class 2 will be continuing with cricket, as well as working on a range of sports skills ready for Sports Week. Please ensure your child brings the correct and named PE kit every Monday morning for the week ahead. Art Drawing The children will use a range of materials and stimuli to develop their drawing skills. They will also look at the work of book illustrators such as Quentin Blake and Anthony Browne and produce their own work that imitates different styles. RE Jesus as a teacher The children consider what Jesus taught us. They will look at different stories from the Bible, such as the Lost Sheep, and consider the messages within them. Numeracy C lass 2 will continue to work on their mental maths skills, including recalling times tables. It is expected that the children should know their 2x, 5x and 10x table confidently and in any order by the end of this year. They will also work on problems involving data handling, directions and money, as well as working on the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Each child will have a weekly guided reading session, and will continue to work on phonics, vocabulary and handwriting. The children’s weekly spelling test will continue so please help them to learn their words at home ready for the test on Tuesdays. Please continue to read regularly at home with your child.
