1 Connecting to Community Christine Goodheart Empire State Partnership Summer Seminar July, 2007

2 Enduring Understanding Strong and meaningful connections with parents, families, and the community are essential to the sustainability of ESP partnerships. The community has rich resources (financial, human, material, information, etc.) that can benefit the partnership. (From the ESP Learning Framework, C3)

3 The Arts Create Community Whether engaged as audience in a powerful common experience or engaged in creating art with others, the arts open pathways for dialogue. And because the arts deal with central aspects of the human experience, those who participate in arts experiences can come to understand one another in new ways.

4 A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops. - Hans Hofmann To be an artist is to believe in life. - Henry S. Moore
