Nonlinguistic Representation Learners acquire and store knowledge in 2 primary ways: 1. Linguistic –by reading or hearing lectures 2.Nonlinguistic –visual imagery Visual representations help students recognize topics kinesthetic: movements The more students use both systems of representing knowledge, the better they are able to think about and recall what they have learned. (Marzano, Pickering, & Pollock,2001) Nonlinguistic Representation is an imagery form of representation. expressed as mental pictures & physical sensations

Bill of Rights The B.o.R. (basic rights) Lists rights that ALL citizens (you and me)get All are rights that colonists didn’t get! Wrote them to make sure that future generations will receive these rights “…our POSTerity. (post-game)

Amendment 5 (V) 1.Due Process (this means that you get fair treatment under the law) 2.I plead the 5 th ! (don’t self incriminate…yourself?) 3.Double Jeopardy (you can’t be tried twice for the same crime 4.Grand Jury (this group of people decides if there is enough evidence to bring charges against the defendant) 5.Eminent Domain (this is when the government can take your property) For example, if they plan to build a highway and your house is in the way. I “due” what I gotta “due” in my house, you don’t have to say a word so hush your mouth…it’s grand to know that peers will decide and you will only be in jeopardy once for that crime…

Amendment 6 (V+I)= VI The right to a trial by a jury of your peers The right to a speedy and public trial The jury to hear all of the witnesses and see all of the evidence The chance to testify themselves should they choose to do so Access to a criminal defense lawyer. If individuals cannot afford to hire their own criminal defense lawyer, a public defender will represent them. This lawyer can act on their behalf before, during, and after the trial

Amendment 7 (VII) You get a jury trial in a civil case

Amendment 8 (VIII) Number 8 looks like a paddle No cruel and unusual punishments! This includes excessive bails and fines Guess what looks like an 8 too: Handcuffs!

Amendment 9 (10 is X so…1 - X) IX In case we forgot any… 9 rhymes with “mine” Rights given to the people…us! For example, we have the right to privacy but it is not mentioned in the Constitution.

Amendment 10 (X) Not for us, but for the states! This amendment discusses reserved powers to the states.

Amendment 11(XI) more clearly defines the original jurisdiction of the Supreme Court concerning a suit brought against a state by a citizen of another state. This means that the US Supreme Court can hear these cases for the first time.

Amendment 12 (XII) 1 2 Voting for the #1 man and the #2 man! voting for the Pres and Vice Pres on the same ballot

Amendment 13 (XIII) The 13 th amendment abolished slavery

Amendment 14 (XIV) 1 (one) 4 (four) ALL! We are all equal under the law! **HUGE!!!! –Anytime one is not being treated equally…. Cite the 14 th !

Amendment 15 (XV) African American male suffrage Guess what? African American has 15 letters! –13, 14 and 15 go together! They are called the Civil War amendments

Amendment 16 ( XVI) The sixteenth amendment allowed Congress to create the income tax

Amendment 17 (XVII) Now we get to elect senators! This amendment allowed the people to vote directly for U.S. Senators.

Amendment 18 (XVIII) This amendment prohibited the manufacture, consumption, and distribution of alcohol in the United States until its repeal with the 21 st amendment.

Amendment 19 (XIX) What age do women look the best? Nineteen! (31!!) This amendment gave women the right to vote in the United States!

Amendment 20 (XX) Terms of president, vp and congress President gets inaugurated on Jan. 20!

Amendment 21 (XXI) What can you do at 21 years of age? Exactly… Prohibition is repealed!

Amendment 22 (XXII) Pres only gets two two! Two terms!

Amendment 23 (XXIII) DC residents received the right to vote for president

Amendment 24 (XXIV) No poll taxes! 2 vote 4 free

Amendment 25 (XXV) What if the pres dies or leaves office? Rhyme it: “25 president dies” This amendment deals with presidential successsion

Amendment 26 (XXVI) 18 year olds get suffrage! 2 + 6 = 8teen year olds

Amendment 27 (XXVII) No congressional pay raises during a term of congress
