Arrested for voting in the 1872 Presidential election. She asserted her 14 th Amendment right because, it provides that all “persons” born in the U.S. are “Citizens” who shall not be denied the “privileges” of citizenship.

1878 – Women’s Suffrage Amendment is first introduced to Congress stating “the rights of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of gender.
