3 Cartoon interpretation 1. Describe the cartoon/image 2. Who is leaving New Zealand? 3. How does this cartoon depict the leavers? 4. How does the cartoon portray the government? 5. Why don't they deserve a great government? 6. What is the brain drain? 7. Who has acknowledged the brain drain? 8. This is the same cartoonist as yesterday. What are his views on New Zealand emigrants? 9. Do you agree with his views?

4 How does New Zealand limit immigration?  Immigration act 2009  Limit of 750 refugees per year  Net immigration target of 45,000  Target groups with allowances eg 1000 from Samoa  Do you think these figures are accurately determined as a sustainable quota

5 Barriers into New Zealand  Fill out a section of the New Zealand working visa application, discuss with the class the requirements you had to provide Personal information Health Character Education Employability Partner or dependencies  Record in your books main limitations for each heading

6 Ensure we get the best  Skilled Migrant Category  The Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) offers you the opportunity to move to New Zealand to work and live permanently.  Who can apply?  To be eligible for residence under SMC you must: be 55 or under be healthy be of good character speak English.  To decide if you can apply we use a points system. You get points for age, experience, employability and qualifications
