Stative Verbs Senses: feel, hear, see, smell, taste Thoughts: believe, forget, guess, know, think, understand Feelings: dislike, enjoy, feel, hate, hope, like, love, prefer, want, wish Possessions: have, own, belong

State-Action 1. a. think – opinion ( חוות דעת ) – a stative verb I think Mr. Black is a wonderful teacher. b. thought process ( תהליך מחשבה ) - not a stative verb “What are you doing?” - “I’m thinking about my vacation in Paris.”

2. a. smell ( של יש ריח ) - a stative verb This flower smells beautiful. b. smell ( להריח) - not a stative verb The dog is smelling the bone. 3. a. taste ( יש טעם של ) - a stative verb The soup tastes good. b. taste ( לטעום ) - not a stative verb Mother is tasting the soup she is cooking

4. a. appear (להראות ) - a stative verb He appears tired. b. appear (להופיע ) - not a stative verb He is appearing on the stage now. 5. a. have – own, possess - a stative verb She has two sisters. b. have – doing, eating, drinking – not a stative verb We are having dinner now. Other double meaning verbs are: look, see, weigh, feel
