5 Output Devices An output device is any component that can convey information to the user.

6 Display Devices CRT Monitor Flat Panel

7 The 15 Pin Video Connector
The standard connection for a CRT or Flat Panel monitor is a 15 pin connector. It is connected into the 15 pin video port on the PC.

8 The Video Card An expansion card added to a PC to improve the video output. 15 pin monitor port S-video port DVI port

9 Digital Television There are three digital TV formats
480p digital format that has a resolution of 480 X 720 lines of resolution, same as standard TV 720p is a HDTV signal with 720 X 1280 lines of resolution. Most broadcaster use this resolution 1080p is termed complete HDTV with 1080 X lines of resolution, used in Blue Ray and X-Box systems.

10 Digital Television- Aspect Ratio
Aspect ration refers to the width and height of the picture created. Standard TV has an aspect ration of 4:3 HDTV has an aspect ration of 16:9

11 Printers Printers are device that produces text and graphics on printer media. Result is hard copy, or printout

Impact printer that produces printed images when tiny wire pins strike ribbon Known as dot-matrix

13 Types of Printers – Non-impact
A printer forms characters and graphics without striking paper Two major types Inkjets Laser printers

14 Inkjet Printers Sprays tiny drops of liquid ink onto paper
This is a cold process

15 Laser Printers Uses toner to create the image This is a hot process

16 Printing Media Specific types of media for specific types of printers
Plane paper Coated paper Photographic paper Transparencies Misc

17 Thermal Printers Generates images by pushing electrically heated pins against heat-sensitive paper One specific type of thermal printer is the label printer

18 Dye-sublimation Printers
Uses heat to transfer dye to specially coated paper Used to create high quality photographs

19 Plotters Sophisticated printer used to produce high-quality drawings
Large-format creates photo-realistic-quality color prints

20 Facsimile (fax) machine
Device that transmits and receives documents over telephone lines

21 Multifunction Peripheral
Provides functionality of printer, scanner, copy machine, and fax machine

22 Data Projector Device that takes image from computer screen and projects it onto larger screen

23 Output Options for Physically Challenged
Magnifier programs for the desktop Windows settings to increase readability Voice and brail output
