Federal fort in South Carolina Confederate States attack on April 12, 1861 After 34 hours of bombardment the Union forces under Robert Anderson surrender No casualties, but this begins the war that many knew was brewing for some time Was Lincoln’s actions in resupplying the fort an innocent action, or a means of sparking a conflict with the South?
