5 Finance Loss in August – (£268k) but still in surplus year to date £42k Not all over performance yet accounted for due to new rules under Commissioning Business Support Agency (CBSA) Ongoing discussion with SHA who have agreed we should maintain £4.1m surplus forecast outturn

6 Foundation Trust Application Positive meetings with new SHA team - 3 September (IBP) and 18 September (LTFM) On target to submit Integrated Business Plan and Long Term Financial Model - 30 September Historic Due Diligence to be undertaken by Deloittes - October/ November Membership drive continues to get above 10,000 (5,000 public and 5,000 staff)

7 Teaching The Learning Centre at RSH now operational Very positive visit from Staffordshire University “It was very constructive and informative discussion and great to see so many examples of good practice in the clinical areas” Continued strong relationships with Keele University – second year of undergraduate student intake commenced

8 Emergency Planning Multi-agency Pandemic Influenza Plan nearing completion. SaTH plan actioned via our Major Incident Plan TT/ TR on West Midlands Emergency Response Management Arrangements (ERMA) Commanders Rota

9 Other Issues Bernie Bentick and Yvonne Doonan (with 2 colleagues from other Trusts) have had a randomised controlled trial published in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Health Economy Decontamination Project – issued to bidders 4 August – bids due December New security contract placed to commence 1 October Accommodation scheme re-confirmed (despite the credit crunch) and ground works commenced

10 Other Issues Backlog maintenance issue in Pharmacy Asceptic Suite and Maternity facilities being tackled Energy efficient boiler scheme for PRH to save a further 2,221 tonnes of carbon emissions for approval today Business Case to become a Cancer Bowel Screening site to be considered at October Management Executive meeting subject to National Review Team visit
