Gender Equity Means fairness of treatment for women and men according to their respective needs. It often requires built-in measures to compensate for the historical and social disadvantages of women (such as restrictions on mobility or access to education). Or it may mean projects are targeted to women only 15
16
Gender Equality Both men & women are free to develop their personal abilities & make choices without the limitations set by stereotypes, rigid gender roles, or prejudices. It does not mean that women and men have to become the same, but that their rights, responsibilities & opportunities will not depend on whether they are born male or female. It means an equal visibility & empowerment of both sexes in all spheres of public and private life. 16
