Elements of Art Line- a dot that went for a walk
Shape- a flat area, such as a circle or a square, that has clear boundaries Form- a three-dimensional (3-D) object, such as a cube or a ball, form may also be depicted on a 2-D surface. Color- what is see when waves of light strike the parts of your eye. Texture- the way a surface feels or looks like it would feel such as smooth, rough, or bumpy. Space- an empty surface or area. Also, the area surrounding something. Value- the lightness or darkness of colors.

Line Types Of Line: Directions of Line: Zigzag Straight Curvy Bumpy
Curly Thick Thin Etc. Directions of Line: Horizontal Vertical Diagonal Radial

Color Primary- a gift from mother nature that can not be made by mixing any other 2 colors- used to make every other color- red, yellow, blue Secondary- 2 primary colors mixed together- red + yellow= orange blue + red = violet yellow + blue = green Warm- make you feel happy or excited- red, orange, yellow Cool- sad or sleepy- blue, violet, green Complimentary- colors that look good together and are opposite each other on the color wheel- red/green, blue/orange, yellow/violet

Shape Geometric- shapes that can be measured
Organic- shapes that are formed freely and often found in nature

Texture Actual- the way something really feels
Visual- the way something looks like it might feel

Space Foreground- objects in the front of a work of art
Background- objects in the back of a work of art Background Foreground

Color + its compliment = shade
Value Color + white = tint Color + black = shade Or Color + its compliment = shade

Principles of Designs Pattern- repeated colors, lines, shapes, or textures in an artwork. Contrast- showing the difference between two unlike things, such as a dark color and a light color, to create interest Balance- The arrangement of the elements, in a work of art, used to make the artwork feel equal (like balancing a scale) Emphasis- it is the importance given to a certain object or area in an artwork and is used to attract the viewers eye

Subject Matter Still Life- An artwork showing an arrangement of objects that cannot move on their own, such as fruit or flowers Portrait- a work of art created to show a person or group of people Landscape- a drawing, painting or photograph that shows outdoor scenery such as trees, lakes, mountains, and fields.
