25 UN JOUR A PARIS ONE DAY IN PARIS By Wilson Delille

26 History of Paris The historical nucleus of Paris is the Ile de la Cit é, a small island largely occupied by the huge Palais de Justice and the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris. A major characteristic of Paris is its tree- lined quays along the Seine River, in particular, along the Left Bank with its open-air bookstalls, the historic bridges that span the river, and the vast tree-lined boulevards like the Champs- É lys é es.

28 Tour of Paris The first place I want to visit in my one day tour of Paris is La Tour Eiffel. So, I will take the metro closed to my Hotel and travel to the Eiffel Tower station. In fact, the most famous monument in the world (317 meters, 10,100 tons) was built by Gustave Eiffel in 1889 for the Universal Exhibition of which it was the star.

30 Arc de Triumph Visiting the Arc de Triumph is my second choice. Commissioned in 1806 by Napoleon, shortly after his victory at Austerlitz, it was not finished until 1836. There are four huge relief sculptures at the bases of the four pillars. Beneath the Arch is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and eternal flame commemorating the dead of the two world wars. a
