1 This is your chance to teach me about the music that you love to listen to….use your time wisely!

2  Many of you have complained for three years about the music I have made you listen to and learn about. Now is the point in your middle school music classes where you have the opportunity to learn about your favorite style of music and teach me, and your friend, what is so great about your favorite music and the people who perform it.  Be prepared to present to the rest of the class what you have learned during the last week of the grading period

3  At the end of the project you will create 3 to 5 page paper about your favorite musical performer or group.  You will be presenting your project to the class to share what you have learned about the person/group that you are researching.  Remember that you will only get out of this project what you put into it. If you think this project is boring and put no effort into it, it will be boring. Choose a performer/performing group that you enjoy listening to and want to learn about.

4  Once you have selected your performer/group, start by reading a biography about him/her. Find out what style of music he/she performs. Research the style of music and find out as much about that style of music as you can and answer the questions about musical style.  ***Remember to gather the information first…and then create your project.  Next research your performer and answer the questions about him/her.

5 ***Remember to keep track of the websites and books that you use. You will need to include a bibliography with your assignment. 1. The first section of the research should be about musical style. a. What is the musical style? b. What is unique about this style? c. Describe this musical style. Continued on next slide……

6 2. The second section of the research should be about your performer/performing group. a. Stage name and complete name as found in your research. b. When and where he/she was born (if you are researching a group when was the group formed and what led to its formation) c. Information about him/her as a person, family, and childhood (if you are doing a group tell us about the members of the group) d. Where he/she (they) live now or during the years they were performing if no longer performing. e. Who taught him/her about music. Who led him/her to a performing career. Who are some of the people that he/she would consider role models, that inspired him/her to perform this type of music. f. Information about his/her first big hit. g. Major hits that have made him/her a star h. Does he/she write his/her own songs or does someone else write the songs that have made him/her famous. i. When this musician performs, how big are the performance venues (places where the performances take place). Where are some of the places that he/she has performed and upcoming schedule of performances. j. What other types of people are involved in this performers performances (Careers in the music industry besides performance)? k. Any other information about this musician that you found interesting. Remember the more information that you find the easier it will be to do your report, poster, power point, and presentation. l. Use a minimum of 2 resources (if possible one internet and one book, if you use wikipedia you should confirm your information in another source). SITE YOUR SOURCES!!!!!
