UFD PC density, Internet connectivity and broadband 9 students pr PC in primary schools, 3,5 students pr PC in secondary schools 93 % of primary schools and 99 % of secondary schools have Internet connection 30 % of lower secondary and 59 % of upper secondary schools have connections faster than 1 Mbps.

UFD Access to PC and Internet Removal of the reservation clause in the curriculum (L97) for the compulsory school from autumn 2002 is planned Possible introduction of general use of ICT during examinations in 2004 Work towards access to PC and Internet for all students in primary and secondary education

UFD In-service training and further education for teachers The government has decided over a two year period to offer 40 000 teachers in- service training in basic pedagogical use of ICT In-service training and further education focused on the use of ICT in school subjects will be developed (English, Mathematics and Norwegian in 2002)

UFD Digital learning tools Plan for digital learning resources 2001- 2003 – Social studies developed in 2001 Areas given priority in 2002: – Mathematics, English, Science and Racism – Development of a database with access to software and digital resources that are quality assured and cleared due to author’s rights

UFD Research and development The PLUTO-programme with the main goal: To contribute to innovative restructuring of teacher education through the use of ICT – To develop pedagocical and organizational models for the adaption and accomplishment of study and learning activities in teacher education, where ICT makes up a sustantial part The PILOT-programme-Project: Innovation in Learning, Organization and Technology – Focus on pedagogical use of ICT and how ICT might overcome geographical restrains that are central for many schools in remote areas of Norway. 135 schools in 9 counties participate

UFD National learning grid One stop shop educational portal in 2002 Common entry point to educational information and educational services and offers (digital learning resources, in-service training and further education).

UFD Broadband…. Improve broadband connection for primary- and secondary schools. Secondary schools are given priority in 2002. Fibre school project - practical solutions Joint-venture projects with different sectors (libraries, municipality administrations, public health sector) Strengthen and develop the research grid – Upgrade to gigabit capacity – Follow up UNINETT and NORDUnet (Nordic Research Network Collaboration)

UFD Finances 182,6 mill NOK from chapter 248 (in addition to resources transferred from 2001) 30 mill NOK from ch. 281 to ICT in teacher training 30 mill NOK from ch. 226 to in service training and further education 50 mill NOK from ch. 226 for development of in service training

UFD Finances US $ 34 MILLION US $ towards ICT in education 18 MILLION US $ in addition to cover expences in connection with in-service training and further education (180 US $ pr teacher)
