Blessings vs. Divine discipline related to giving in business. Pt. 3
5
Giving is a business transaction. You are exchanging your material blessings (time, talent treasure, or truth), surrendering them to others for their benefit.
6
Prov 11:24 “Scatter” Give before the need arises, planting many seeds.
7
Prov 11:25 “Water” Give when the needs arise during the nurturing process, and keep on giving until the needs are met.
8
Prov 11:26 “Sell your grain” When the harvest is in, share what you have with the needy, and do not hoard your wealth.
9
Principles of Giving: Giving is an expression of worship to commemorate the grace policy of God.
10
We are to be good stewards in the giving of our time, talent, treasure and truth.
11
1. Time: Spend quality moments with those who need help or encouragement.
12
Gal 6:9-10, “Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. 10 So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.”
13
2. Talent: Operate in your spiritual gifts.
14
1 Peter 4:10, “As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
15
3. Treasure: Financially support each other when necessary.
16
Luke 6:38, “Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure, (how much you give), it will be measured to you in return.”
17
4. Truth: Apply the Word of God in your relationships with each other.
18
Col 4:5-6, “Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. 6 Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.”
19
We are God’s trustees or stewards of good gifts to be given to others. 1 Peter 1:17; 2:11; 4:10-11; Luke 19:11-26
20
There is a spiritual gift of giving, Rom 12:6-8, yet giving is universal to all believers as a major portion of our “Christian service.”
