But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest parts of the earth (Acts 1:8) Family “ Neighbor ” Church Planting Overseas Missions Great Commission

Church Zero by Peyton Jones Abandon the “big church” model of evangelism in America A neglected purpose of a “mega-church” is to send – Sounds like Revolution in World Missions— but for America

The Model of Professional Ministry in America 1.Get more people 2.More people = more money 3.More money = more toys 4.More toys = more ways to get more people 5.Get more people (rinse and repeat)

The Typical Model of “Church Planting” in America 1.Get seminary degree 2.No mega church will hire me 3.Start bible study in my house 4.Gather up the malcontents from other churches 5.Get enough people to rent a building and pay my salary 6.Build my own mega-church

An Alternative 1.Raise up church planters (“apostle” = sent ones) – Like Timothy, Silas, Epaphroditus, Apollos, Barnabus, etc. 2.Send them somewhere – Convert growth, not transfer – Build the Kingdom, not an empire (e.g., no big box and cushy salary)

For NeoXenos: Don’t get too comfortable Attendance exceeds 300 – What are we to do? Build/buy/rent a big box? Sit in that box?

Don’t get too comfortable We might want to do fun (weird?) things – Like the Study Bus!

Don’t get too comfortable Love of Money – 1 Tim 6:9-10 Identity in Career – 1 John 2:15-17 Care-taking – Mark 14:7 vs. 1 Cor. 12 In-fighting – Galatians 5:13ff Discouragement – 2 Cor. 4

Needs: 1. Gifting and Equipping It was he who gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers (Ephesians 4:11) – Apostles (missionaries) – Prophets – Evangelists – Pastors (shepherds) – Teachers

Needs: 2. Training Big P, little p – e.g., Hudson, Beta. – e.g., Benson Hines’ Reaching the Campus Tribes

Needs: 3. Character 2 Timothy 2 – Soldier – Athlete – Farmer – Vessel Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who does not need to be ashamed, teaching the message of truth accurately. (2 Timothy 2:15)

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:18-20) Evangelism and Discipleship Local BOC HC’s Cell PlantingMissions Indigenous IGL Sariki
