Facts The capital of Samoa is Apia.
Savaii Island is the largest Samoan island in seven islands in total. > The highest point in Samoa is Mount Lata. Samoa's motto is ‘mumamaa le atua’ which means in Samoa God is first. The Samoan alphabet has only five vowels and five constants. In the Samoan launge Tafo means goodbye, Tama means boy, teinie means girl. Samoa was formed 7 millions years ago.

History Samoa was first conquered by Britain and then ruled by New Zealand from 1914 to 1962, when they finally gained their independence. Samoa was explored by the Dutch and the French in the 18th century. In 1914 at the outset of the First World War, New Zealand took control of Western Samoa, replacing Germany as it's colonial masters, and retained it when the war ended under a mandate from the League of Nations. These are the graves of soldiers who died in the war in 1914

Geography The area of Samoa is 2,944sq km in total, 2,934 in land and 10 sq km in water. The coastline in 403 km. The climate of Samoa is tropical; rainy season (November to April), dry season (May to October) The land use of Samoa is 21.1% for arable land, 24.38% for permanent crops and 54.42% for others. Festivals in Samoa There are five popular festivals in Samoa : International Game, Fishing tournament, independent day, Teuila Festival, White Sunday and Flag day. The Teuila festival is one of Samoa’s most celebrated annual event. .

Demography The population of Samoa is 182, % are Samoans living in Samoa and 7% are Europeans living in Samoa. Samoan minority religious groups are Christians 35% (Catholic 19.6%, Methodist 15%).

Culture Sport: The main sport in Samoa is rugby and kilikiti .
In rugby Samoa beat Fiji and Namibia but lost to Wales and South Africa. Kilikiti is like cricket for us. The players are not protected by any padding or anything else. The similarities to cricket is there is a batting team, a fielding team, and a pitch (sometimes concrete). Dance Ladies normally wear lava-lava . The clothes may be made with feathers freshly cut flowers and lei. Fiafia is a good way to watch it. Their traditional dance is Taualuga . They are dressed in pants called Tuiga.

Culture Music The past,presant and sometime the near future are put into a song. The traditional instrument is a hollowed out log. America Samoa a song written by Mariota Tiumaliu Tuiasosopo and music by napoteon Andrew tuittererpaga has been the official anthem of America Samoa since the 1950’s. Art forums –The Ava Ceremony The ava ceremony is the most important ritual which takes place in important occasions . The ceremonial item for the Ava Ceremony include the tanoa wooden bowl. The drink for the Ava Ceremony is served in a coconut half.

Food and Drink /Cuisine
Sundays are a traditional day of rest. The umu is well known in Samoa. The adults will eat first then the children will come and eat afterwards. Coconut is used in many dishes. This is the umu cooked
