Welcome to 2B class! I am so pleased to be teaching second grade at Yinghua Academy as your child’s teacher this year. I am looking forward to a successful year, full of new learning opportunities, challenges and great experiences for each student. Cheng Lasohi 09/15/2015

A little about Cheng Laosh i My name is Ye Cheng (Cheng Laoshi). Graduated from the University of MN with a MA in Educational Psychology. This year is my third year as a 2 nd grade teacher at Yinghua. Prior to YA, I was a school counselor in MPS and SPPS. I am from Guangzhou, China. Besides Mandarin, I speak Cantonese as well. I have been living in Minnesota for four years. I love to travel, so far I have been to 28 states in the U.S.

Communication tool: classroom page (update weekly with news, event announcement, and daily homework) To access the classroom pages: 1. Go to www.yinghuaacademy.orgwww.yinghuaacademy.org 2. What our students need to grasp in second grade Chinese Characters ( 字) Write 220 Chinese characters related to the 2 nd grade curriculum using correct stroke order. 8 Steps of Model Drawing Read the entire problem. Decide who is involved in the problem. Decide what is involved in the problem. Draw unit bars of equal length. Read each sentence, one at a time. Put the question mark in place. Work computation to the side or underneath. Answer the question in a complete sentence.

Water bottle Please have your child bring a water bottle to school. Having a water bottle reduces the frequency to walk back and forth from the drinking fountain and classroom. Snacks There is a brief snack time scheduled each day for students to have simple snacks in the classroom. Please send healthy and peanut-free snacks with your child, if he/she would like to have snacks in school.

Homework Policies Homework (math and Chinese) most nights in 2nd Grade 30 minutes of English book reading is recommended Make sure your child has distraction free homework time and a set homework place We provide 15 to 20 minutes of homework time per day for students to complete part of their homework and ask questions Please check and sign your child’s take home folder daily. Remind your child to hand in the homework on time.
