Module 1 Installation and configuration of Speednet in SPC
2
Module objective At the end of the module, you will be able to
Recognize the components of Speednet Install Speednet communication, Install server and client components Configure Speednet for SPC Configure communication module of Speednet for successful data transfer
4
Components explained Resides in one of the client systems with internet connection; Interchanges article and bag data with central server Should never be installed on the Server Speednet Communication client Installed on the server and the server folder shared; Accessed by the Speednet client while software is running Speednet Server Accessed by users (Supervisors and operators) to perform routine operations; Installed in all the clients Speednet client
5
Installation modes Client/server mode Standalone mode
Server component installed in server Client component resides in client systems Communication module installed in one of the client systems Standalone mode In offices with single system, both client and server component as well as Communication module are installed in the same system
6
Installation process Communication module installed in a client system and EMS client folder shared with appropriate access rights Server component installed on the server; Speednet Server folder created is shared with suitable access permissions for all users in the domain Client component initially installed in server and connected to server component; Database is created and application is configured; Later installed in all clients
7
Prerequisites Windows client/server network comprising the following
Windows 2000/2003/2008 server with dot net framework 2.0 or later, on the server Windows 2000 Professional/xp/vista/7 in clients with dot net framework 2.0 or later A domain binding the network to implement centralized security Internet connection in the communication client A standard antivirus system to protect the communication client (compulsory) and all other client systems(optional), with an active registration and auto-updation and on-access protection enabled
8
Pre-requisites (cont’d)
SQL Server 2000/2005/2008 standard edition installed on the server and mixed authentication enabled with a secure SA password Latest service packs available - Service pack 4 for SQL 2000/ service pack 2 for SQL 2005 (minimum requirement) Client edition of SQL Server in client systems with no management tools A domain user account created for each user in the office
9
Installation steps – Communication component
Place the setup CD in the CD/DVD drive in the server or local system Open the CD and run the communication setup Follow the setup as in the screenshots shown in the next slide On completion of installation share EMS client folder with appropriate permissions
10
Communication component installation process - 1
When you run the setup, this is the first dialog box that comes up Click the right arrow button to continue setup
11
Communication component installation process - 2
This is the next step Here you have the option to change the destination folder using Change Directory button; The default path is C:\EMSClient Follow the onscreen inst
12
Communication component installation process - 3
Setup will now show you the program group under which the application will be available for access Click Continue to proceed
13
Communication component installation process (final step)
In this step you should select where the module is installed In offices with Speednet, select the default option SpeedNet In offices with Point of sale only (extension counters) having internet facility use Point of Sale option (to upload booked data) This completes the setup
14
Watch the demo of communication component installation in faculty system
15
Exercise 1.1.1 – Installation of Speednet communication
16
Server component installation
Install the server component in the server in a drive other than C drive (preferably) Depending on the office status select the components like BNPL, collection agent Set up steps are as in the sequence in next slide On completion of installation, share the server component
17
Server setup sequence – 1
Access the Speednet server component in the setup CD and launch the setup As with the communication module, click the right arrow button in this initial window to continue setup
18
Server Setup sequence - 2
In this dialog box, you are prompted to change the installation path with a default path shown Change the installation path to a drive other than C to ensure hassle free growth and security Click the setup icon to continue
19
Server Setup sequence - 3
In this final step, choose whether your office is Delivery office Handles BNPL and collection agent articles Install flush data, as per requirements Click OK to finish setup Share the SpeednetServer folder in the installation path
20
Exercise 1.1.2 – Installation of server component
21
Client setup process Install the client component now on the server and connect to the server component The steps involved is shown in the next slide Watch the demo of installation process
22
Client setup sequence - 1
In this initial setup dialog box, click the setup icon to proceed with setup
23
Client setup sequence - 2
In this dialog box, the program group in which the application will be available gets displayed, click Continue to proceed
24
Client setup sequence - 3
The message box Path/file access error that appears is a non critical error; Click Retry and the next dialog box appears In this dialog box, you should browse and point to the Speednet Server
25
Client setup sequence - 4
Now click OK to complete the client setup
26
Exercise 1.1.3 – Speednet client setup
27
Configuration for SPC Run the speednet on completion of installation to complete the following tasks; The application will lead you through these tasks in sequence Creating database Customizing the application for SPC Creating users Connecting to Point of sale and communication components Creating other environments like connected offices, despatch and receipt schedules and delivery The sequence is shown in the next slide
28
Configuration step - 1 In this dialog box, we create the supervisor
29
Configuration step - 2 In this dialog box we localize the application to the office concerned The office can be either a SPCC or a linked office If you select linked office configuration, you should search for your office from the attached SPCC list
30
Configuration step - 3 Using this dialog box, you should connect the speednet to the Point of sale existing in the same network – to fetch booked article data Select whether POS is installed, if so how If POS is in the same network enter the name of the server
31
Configuration step - 4 In this step, you should select the system and shared folder (EMS Client) where Communication module is installed Use the Browse button to search and point to the EMS Client in the network and proceed further
32
Configuration step - 5 In this step, if you click View offices you will get list of SPCCs, linked offices and RMS/TMOs You cannot add any new SPC or linked office You can however add any other office to which bags can be closed in your SPC is regularly closing such bags
33
Configuration step - 6 The User Management dialog box that appears is used to create operators in the system Click the User Management button to complete this task
34
Configuration step - 7 In this dialog box, we define the set numbers if the office works on more than one shift If no shift system is in vogue, simply check off the check box and proceed next
35
Configuration step - 8 This dialog box is used to configure the designations Duties are assigned to designations Users are mapped to designations every day at the time of job allocation Click Designations button and create the number of required designations
36
Configuration step - 9 Here we configure the despatch schedules of the SPC Ascertain the carrier, set, days of despatch and destination from the office and create the schedules
37
Configuration step - 10 In this step, we configure the receipt schedules for the office Ascertain the existing receipt pattern and configure the schedule similarly as despatch schedule
38
Configuration step - 11 Here you need to furnish Delivery environment information Ascertain the existing environment from the SPC and enter these data You need to also enter the names of postmen and bulk addressees, if the delivery environment exists
39
Configuration step - Final
You now move to this concluding step Click Finish to complete the configuration
40
Demo of initial configuration in faculty system
41
Exercise 1.1.4 – Initial configuration
42
Further configuration
BNPL distance configuration (local and non configured locations) Duty allocation for designations BNPL customer creation and related configuration When application is run the first time, these customizations are required further
43
Local settings When Speednet is run for first time distance related configuration needs to be completed In this dialog box you get a list of offices for which aerial distance could not be auto-configured (includes local offices) You are given option to configure the above offices Calculate the distance for each office connecting them to SPC concerned and select appropriate distance slab For linked offices, initially select the distance as in the range of 1-200; Later, you can modify the local offices
44
Local settings cont’d Login as supervisor in Speednet to proceed with localising First create data of existing BNPL customers getting data from SPC Configure Miscellaneous charges – Discount, Service tax etc.,
45
Local settings cont’d Working as supervisor perform duty allocation to designations created based on the need of the office Use the menu Master – Duty allocation
46
BNPL OB configuration Special attention be given to this: Checking the box and closing the window prevents attempts to manipulate balances – menu itself disappears
47
Exercise 1.1.5 – Localisation of Speednet
48
Configuring communication module
Involves Connection to Speednet server component Setting the internet connection mode Configuring the time lag between server calling attempts The following set of slides depict the sequence
