Heart:
Muscle that pumps blood to body AND lungs
Arteries:
THICK vessels that carry blood AWAY from heart
TO lungs or TO body
Veins:
THIN vessels that carry blood TO heart
FROM lungs or FROM body
May have valves to keep blood flowing towards the heart
Capillaries:
TINY, TINY blood vessels that connect arteries to veins
One cell thick to allow for diffusion
GAS EXCHANGE OCCURS IN CAPILLARIES!

Prevent “backflow” of blood
Locations:
Between atrium and ventricle
Between ventricles and major arteries
