Past Participles To form the past participle of a verb in Spanish, you add ado to the stem of -ar verbs and -ido to the stem of most -er/-ir verbs.

Past Participles “Past Participles” can be used as adjectives.
They must agree in gender and number with the nouns they describe.

Past Participles Cerrar – to close La oficina está cerrada.
The office is closed.

Past Participles Perder – to lose Nosotros estamos perdidos.
We are lost.

Past Participles Vestir – to dress Carmen está bien vestida hoy.
Carmen is well dressed today.

Past Participles Notice that we place no and other negative words, object pronouns, and reflexive pronouns directly in front of the form of the verb estar.

Past Participles Cepillarse El pelo se está cepillado .
Her hair is brushed. El pelo no se está cepillado. Her hair is not brushed.
