3. INTERNET AND LOCAL AREA NETWORK
Internet is publicly accessible network of interconnected computers which communicate via software protocol standards.
Internet has become a global infrastructure with no central control.
A Local Area Network (LAN) is a group of computers and associated devices that share a common communications line or wireless link.

Website A collection of pages that contain numerous types of information (text, image, voice) which can be either static or dynamic
Domain Name
A unique name used to identify the name of a computer server such as web server or server in the computer or internet.
Examples: fk.ugm.ac.id, libmed.ugm.ac.id

6. METHODS OF THE INTERNET CONNECTIVITY
Subscription to an Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Using a telephone line (telkomnet instant, speedy, etc) and extra device called modem.
Using GPRS / 3G modem, generally found in cellular phones.

7. FACTORS AFFECTING SPEED OF THE INTERNET ACCESS
Bandwidth capacity
Number of computers in a local area network
Connection instability caused by computer virus
Server capacity in supporting simultaneous access

8. METHODS OF ACCESSING INFORMATION THROUGH INTERNET
Direct access to the website address
This is made possible when we know the website address we want to access.
Accessing through a search engine
When we do not know the website address we want to access, we can use search engines such as: google.com, search.yahoo.com, search.msn.com, bing.com, etc.

10. MEDICAL HOTSPOT CONNECTION
You have to register for a WiFi access
Prior to access you have to complete registration form and submit a copy of your library card to staff at IT Room Floor 2.
Access through login portal to get connected to Intranet as well as Internet.
One account can only be used for one laptop/ access device.
