Most important god. Buried in tombs & pyramids, paintings on the walls depicted their lives Pharaohs Advised Pharaohs, could read & write. Religion said priests should be clean this habit was copied. Priests Egyptians believed people would need their bodies in the afterlife. Brain & organs taken out, then the body was sewn up & mummified. Embalming River Nile Egyptian farmers were very successful & they dug channels from the Nile to water their fields, sometimes they got blocked – applied this to bodies Traded with India, China & other countries. They exchanged goods for herbs, plants & ointments that were known to have healing properties. Trade

Key question Explain how the Romans learnt about disease. Malaria When soldiers camped near marshes they became ill with MALARIA. Dirty water = Disease Hospitals – built for soldiers with trained doctors & surgeons. Mostly depended on herbal medicine, simple surgery, or rest, diet & exercise.
