3 Patent Information Centre (PIC) –Kolkata (W.B.) Patent Information Centre (PIC) –Kolkata (W.B.)  The first State level facility to provide Patent & IPR related service was set up in Kolkata in collaboration with PFC - TIFAC  Inaugurated in September 1997 by Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal.  PIC Stepped into 3 rd phase during 11 th plan period since 2008. PIC- KOLKATA

4 Role Played by the State Govt. in facilitating GI Registration Notification published & PIC has been declared as a Nodal agency in respect of GI in the state and shall identify the GI items in consultation with the concerned organisations/associations/line govt. deptts. and individual experts. PIC shall file applications for GI registration on behalf of any association of persons/producers and organisations of the state.

7 Some Identified GIs of West Bengal The Patent Information Centre established in 1997 under West Bengal State Council of Science & Technology by PFC-TIFAC, DST,GoI has already identified some GI items of West Bengal which can be registered under GI Act, 1999. Fruit quality: Excellent, Total Soluble Solids 17.8- 19.7 %, total sugar 9.7-17.3%, non-reducing sugar 7.27-12.35 %, pulp per cent 80-88, sugar/acidity ratio 98, keeping quality good.
