SAVING KENTUCKY FOR THE UNION Kentucky was a border state – President Lincoln believed if Kentucky joined the confederacy the war would be lost The confederacy understood the importance of having Kentucky join them Two confederate armies invaded Kentucky in 1862, Kirby Smith and Braxton Bragg Only Bragg was engaged at Perryville A confederate governor installed While the confederates controlled the field at the end of the battle, they retreated that night (the battle was a draw) Last serious threat to Kentucky (Morgan Raiders did operate in the state in 1863)

FUTURE WORK Completion of website. In November of this year we will photograph the Gettysburg Battlefield in 3-D with assistance from USGS, California State University in Pennsylvania, Baltimore County Community College and Pictometry.
