Alternative Energy
2
What does Fossil Fuels do to the Environment?
Fossil Fuels produce large amounts of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) which create global warning and climate change. It also releases Carbon Monoxide, Nitrogen Oxides and Sulfur Dioxides.
3
Why are these things bad?
1. Carbon Dioxide- The Leading cause of global warming is destroying our ecosystems weather patterns and killing people every year and accounts for 120 billion dollars in health care in the USA alone. RESULT- PLANETARY OBLITERATION 2. Sulfur Oxides- This chemical is released into the air causing acid rain and a pungent odour. Result- SEVERE EROSION OF EVERYTHING 3. Carbon Monoxide- This harmful gas makes the body think it is breathing air but it is less dense. Result- DEATH
4
What will happen to the population
The World will be obliterated… so unless we can get to another planet it will be 0.
5
The Scale Of Distress
6
Ontario Ministry Of Energy
The MEO is Trying to reduce Carbon emissions and making fossil fuel free province.
7
Ontario Clean Energy The MEO is doing a ton to help by SHUTTING DOWN ALL THE COAL POWER PLANTS in Ontario by the end of this year. That is like taking 7 MILLION CARS OF THE ROAD!!!
8
Fossil Fuels Fossil Fuels works by burning Coal/Oil/Natural Gas to boil water, to create steam, to spin a generator, to create electricity.
9
What can we do to stop it? The main thing that we can do to stop it is use alternative energy sources. Alternative Energy 1. Solar 2. Wind 3. Hydroelectric 4. Nuclear
10
Wind Wind energy is a renewable energy that works by using wind to turn a propeller attached to a generator.
11
Wind: Pros- Cons PROS CONS Renewable Not Much Power No Pollution Noisy
Expensive Uses a lot of land
12
Solar Solar energy works by converting solar heat into electricity using something that doesn’t make sense and I am labeling “Dark Magic.”
13
Solar: Pros- Cons PROS CONS Renewable Not Much Power No Pollution
Large Areas Of Land Needed Expensive Only Works When Sunny
14
Hydro Hydro works by using water to turn a generator.
15
Hydro: Pros- Cons PROS CONS Lot of Energy Damage to Environment Free
Danger to Humans Near- By Renewable Flooding Lack of Water
16
Nuclear Nuclear works by shooting neutrons at Uranium witch produce heat that boils water creating steam, turning the generator… Basically.
17
Nuclear- Pros- Cons PROS CONS A TON of energy Small amounts of waste
Cheap Expensive to build Efficient Supports Economy
18
What is the Best Alternative?
For urban areas Nuclear is the best option. For areas like the “ Ring of Fire” Tidal and Hydro would work. In remote areas where hydro is not an option wind and solar can come into play.
19
Will All this be enough? If we stop fossil Fuels ASAP we should be able to turn the global warming trend around.
20
Canada’s Efforts Canada has helped by running almost all of it’s energy off of alternative recourses. It has one of the largest down trend in emissions the world over.
21
Results The results are great we are setting an example by shutting down all our Coal plants in Ontario having a lot of hydro and Nuclear.

The End
