1 ACTIVE VS. PASSIVE VOICE

2 PASSIVE VOICE  The subject is receiving the action of the verb.  Example: The dog was attacked by the cat.

3 ACTIVE VOICE  The subject is the DOER of the verb.  Sentence has a direct object.  Example: The cat attacked the dog.

4 HOW DO I AVOID PASSIVE VOICE?  I am glad you asked!  Avoid linking verbs! “To be” verbs create passive voice.  To be verbs?Avoid “to have” as well!  Be being beenhave has had  Am is are  Was were

5 YOUR TURN…  Find 3 sentences in your letter with passive voice and fix them!  Don’t worry – I don’t expect perfection. Just do your best!
